"I have been sewing animals since I was a girl. I started by using felt, making Christmas ornaments. I made my first polar bear, who had on ice skates and a stringer of fish, when I was in grade school. I have since gone on to use mohair, the traditional fabric used by early bear makers. I enjoy dying and distressing fabrics, and giving my bears and creatures special touches by using vintage things, such as bits of lace, discarded photographs, tiny things a child rescues from walkways".
