The current Steiner Company has a rich history in toy making dating back to the late 19th century when two friends established a doll making factory in Georgenthal, Germany.  By 1935 they had started making a modest number of teddy bears but just at a time when the company was flourishing, in the mid 1950's, the buildings and business were destroyed by fire.  The grandson of one of the 2 company founders, Harald Steiner, put the business back together and so began the production of cuddly toys.  In 1972 the company was expropriated by the communist GDR government and was part of a merger with other toy companies into a publicly owned concern.  After Reunification the Steiners started with a new firm - Steiner Ltd.

Today the company employs 38 people and are well respected in the industry, creating artist designed limited edition collector's teddy bears, some of which we show you below.
